ABOUT GLASS HOUSE WINERY

Glass House Winery is a boutique winery in the heart of Monticello Wine Trail in central Virginia. At our vineyard we craft artisan wines made solely from grapes grown on our property and in our region of Virginia. We now have 12 acres under vine on our vineyard (the most recent 6 acres planted in April 2012) and have chosen grapes that bring out the best of the terroir in our region of Virginia. We cultivate these grapes with meticulous care at our winery, while striving to treat the Earth of Virginia as respectfully and gently as possible in the process.

Owners Jeff and Michelle Sanders moved to Virginia in 2006. They were awed by the lush landscape, the beauty of the Blue Ridge and the friendliness of the people in Virginia. While searching for a way to marry Jeff’s botanical skills with Michelle’s love of creating unique chocolates, the couple discovered Virginia’s promising wine industry and many wineries. It was a perfect match and Glass House Winery was born.

With a tropical flair, artisan wines, and chocolates and a very distinctive setting, Glass House is truly one-of-a-kind among wineries. We offer estate wines, blends, a very unique chocolate wine, and Glass House Winery’s own brand of handmade chocolates. We are open Thursdays through Sundays (and holiday Mondays) noon-5:30 p.m, and until 9pm on Fridays. Tastings are $10 ($12 if you want to take home the logo etched wine glass) and include a sample of our hand-crafted chocolate. Group tastings and tours for more than 10 people must e-mail our tasting room manager here for scheduling in advance. Bring a picnic and enjoy our patio seating while you enjoy our wines by the glass or by the bottle. Friendly dogs on leash are welcome.

We have built a tropical conservatory attached to our tasting room. It is filled with tropical plants surrounding tables and walkways, where you are welcome to sip our wines and enjoy a picnic during our business hours. Having moved to Virginia from a tropical island, some of that flavor just had to come along!

We have built Glass House Winery as environmentally friendly as possible, while keeping it a viable business, using both solar and geo-thermal energy sources, and often using materials on the grapes such as clay to keep pests away, rather than more harmful sprays. If you see our grapes looking like clay some days, now you’ll know why!

OUR WINES

Our award-winning wines are made primarily with grapes grown on our vineyard. From red wines to white wines to dessert wines, our winery focuses on producing the highest quality wine that pairs well with food.
