About Brent Manor Vineyards

Brent Manor Vineyard describes themselves as, “where the New World meets the Old World.” This is an ode to their “New World” wines made at their Virginia winery as well as bringing in wines from their favorite Portuguese wineries, the “Old World.” The area that is now Portugal has been making wine for thousands of years. Old World wines offer soft, elegant flavors and are produced by vineyards that may be centuries old. On the other side, New World wines are typically bold, intense, and approachable and refer to wines from vineyards across North America, Australia, South Africa, and parts of Europe, Asia, and South America.

Portugal is home to over 250 grape varieties that provide visitors to Brent Manor with a myriad of wines that may be unlike anything they have tasted before, in addition to the local wines that this vineyard makes.

Brent Manor’s Grapes

The type and quality of grapes used in winemaking have a direct impact on the final product, and Brent Manor has expertly chosen three varieties of grapes to grow on their property. Learn about each below.

  • Chambourcin: This French-American hybrid grape is a deep purplish-red in color and is one of the most popular hybrid grape varieties. Often noted for its herbal aroma, Chambourcin wines typically have notes of plum and cherry. These wines can be light or full-bodied with earthy or spicy elements. Perfect for our region, this wine pairs excellently with barbecue or grilled dishes.
  • Traminette: This white grape is a cross between Gewurztraminer and a French-American hybrid. These grapes can be made into dry or semi-dry wines and retain floral and spicy notes. Traminette wines also often have flavors resembling apricots and honey, making it able to pair with almost any kind of cuisine.
  • Vidal Blanc: This versatile French-American hybrid can be made into sweet dessert wines, steel-fermented dry wines, or oak-fermented smooth wines. With a flavor profile ranging from crisp and citrusy to buttery and floral, Vidal Blanc wines can pair well with anything.
